#i wonder if stiles ever refers to his dad as ‘the sheriff’ #like scott texts him and says ‘halo marathon tonight?’ and stiles is like #’can’t - the sheriff is on my tail’ #or like if he’s grounded he talks about how he fought the law and the law won (via sir-yessir)

You can see the difference in how these characters were brought up clearly from the younger years. Harry if you remember has to be prompted to tell his name, most likely because the Dursley’s hated to acknowledge he is important. Ron, as an afterthought tells his name as though he always gets a head of himself and must be reminded all the time to tell others who he is. While Hermione recites her name as though she has walked up to so many kids trying to make friends, because her parents told her the easiest way to make friends is to introduce yourself. And finally Draco leads with his family name because it shows his pure blood status and sets him above the rest; it is what makes him important and special, and his last name is the only thing that matters. Yet in the end war does not care what your name is, it hurts without discrimination, and that is what the second gifs display all to well.

Why would you do that.

I like Russell Crowe. I like that his first and last names are both sound effects that you’d hear in a graveyard on a foggy day in late autumn.

Thor: The Dark World (liveblog) [x]

In context, remember that Thor has just basically been told that they have no idea what the hell this thing is and that Jane will not survive this thing inside her for very long.  This is not a happy moment, this is the smile that breaks my heart, because it doesn’t reach his eyes at all.

When Thor smiles at her, it’s because he sees that she’s trying to put on her game face and deal with the shitty situation they’re in, this is his attempt to reassure her and he says so in the very next scene, that he’ll find a way to save them all, Thor is very much in protective mode.

It’s a really bittersweet scene to me, because there’s so little that Thor feels he can protect these days.  He says it later in the film, that he can’t protect Loki anymore, that the hope of protecting him from all of this is dead and gone.  We see that he can’t protect Frigga from being emotionally invested in Loki, despite that Thor still wants to trust him and believe in him, despite that Thor still loves him, too.

Of course Thor wants to hold onto Jane and protect her.  This fragile mortal who he sees as fierce and passionate and brilliant and who was there for him when he needed emotional support.  Of couse he’s going to smile at her and reassure her and do his best to help her.

That’s why Thor smiles at her antics, because showing that he can still smile, that means there’s still hope here, there’s still plenty of time and room to figure this out, that they will figure this out.  When you have the energy to put into a smile, that means there’s still hope for all of you.
